Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy for ADHD in NY:
Support for Adults, Teens, and Children

Are you an adult, teen, or parent of a child with ADHD, or wondering if ADHD might be part of your or your child’s story?

Maybe you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, scattered, burned out, or stuck in a frustrating cycle of “I should be able to do this.” You might be exhausted from trying to keep up with systems that weren’t built for your brain. Maybe you’ve known you have ADHD for years, or maybe you’re newly diagnosed—or self-diagnosed—and trying to make sense of what it all means.

Whether you’re formally diagnosed, self-identifying, or still exploring, you deserve therapy that understands the reality of living with an ADHD brain. That means support that’s nonjudgmental, collaborative, strengths-based, and actually helpful—not one that treats ADHD like a flaw to be fixed.

I provide ADHD therapy for children, teens, and adults, and I approach this work from a neurodiversity-affirming lens. I provide in-person therapy in Garden City, NY and online therapy across New York State. Read on for more information or jump to my FAQ.

My Approach to ADHD-Affirming Therapy

ADHD isn’t just about getting distracted or being “hyper.” It’s a brain-based difference in how you process information, manage tasks, regulate emotions, and relate to the world around you. It’s also a difference that is often misunderstood—and misrepresented.

In my practice, ADHD-affirming therapy means:

  • I don’t see ADHD as something to fix. I see it as a neurological difference—one that comes with both challenges and strengths.

  • I won’t give you a one-size-fits-all checklist of tips or strategies. Instead, I’ll work with you to develop strategies that actually make sense for how your brain works.

  • I won’t tell you to just “try harder.” I’ll help you understand and support your executive functioning, not shame i

  • I focus on collaboration, curiosity, and flexibility—not pressure, judgment, or rigid goals.

Depending on your needs, our work might include:

  • Building systems for time management, organization, or task initiation

  • Navigating emotional dysregulation or rejection sensitivity

  • Identifying internalized messages around laziness, discipline, or “not living up to your potential”

  • Exploring identity and self-understanding, especially if you’re newly diagnosed or self-identifying

  • Developing tools for motivation, focus, and decision-making

  • Addressing overwhelm, burnout, or anxiety that often co-occur with ADHD

  • Practicing self-compassion and working through shame or perfectionism

  • Supporting you in relationships, work, or school—without trying to force you into neurotypical molds

I draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, DBT, and mindfulness, all approached through a neurodiversity-affirming and client-centered lens. I tailor the work to be affirming, collaborative, and doable. Therapy should support your functioning, not add to the overwhelm.

  • Advocate for your needs in school, work, or relationships

  • Feel more confident, capable, and connected to your values

Can Online Therapy Work for ADHDers?

While I do provide in-person therapy in Garden City, NY, this may not be an accessible option if you live outside of the NYC/Long Island area. Fortunately, I also offer online therapy throughout New York State for those for whom in-person therapy isn't an option.

Many people with ADHD find online therapy more accessible and effective. It can allow you to:

  • Attend sessions from a space that feels comfortable and familiar

  • Skip the logistics stress of commuting or arriving on time

  • Use tools or stims that help you focus

  • Move, fidget, or take breaks as needed

  • Show up in ways that feel sustainable—even when executive function is low

I tailor sessions to your needs. That might mean offering structure and reminders, reviewing takeaways together, allowing multi-taking, or flexibly adjusting how we meet if something’s not working.
