Therapy for Depression in NY:
Support for Adults, Teens, and Children
Do you feel weighed down, disconnected, or like you're moving through life in slow motion, even if everything seems fine on the outside?
Sometimes depression doesn’t look like what people expect. Maybe it’s not constant sadness, but instead feeling numb, foggy, disconnected, or just... tired. Maybe you’re still going through the motions, getting things done, but everything feels heavier than it should. Or maybe it is sadness, deep, heavy, hard to shake, and it’s starting to take over parts of your life.
Whether you’ve felt this way for a while or it’s something that snuck up on you, therapy can help you reconnect with your emotions, your energy, and yourself.
I provide online therapy for depression to kids, teens, and adults across New York and in-person in Garden City, NY. Together, we’ll work to understand what you’re feeling, explore what might be contributing to it, and build tools that support your well-being at a pace that feels manageable and safe. My Approach to Depression Therapy
Depression is not a personal failure. It can show up for so many reasons: emotional burnout, chronic stress, grief, trauma, disconnection, perfectionism, or a lifetime of feeling unseen or misunderstood. Sometimes it’s loud; sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it makes everything feel heavy, even the things that used to bring you joy.
I approach depression with care and curiosity, not quick fixes. I won’t tell you to “just think positive” or force a pace that doesn’t feel sustainable. Together, we’ll focus on what’s actually helpful for you.
In therapy, we might:

-
Make sense of your symptoms without judgment
-
Explore what your depression might be protecting you from
-
Challenge shame-based or perfectionistic thought patterns
-
Reconnect with small moments of meaning or motivation
-
Make space for grief, anger, or unmet needs
-
Build routines that work with your energy, not against it

I draw from CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, and compassion-focused therapies, all through a neurodiversity-affirming and client-centered lens. The work is collaborative, affirming, and paced with intention, so that therapy feels safe, not overwhelming. Therapy with me isn’t about forcing “productivity” or chasing happiness. It’s about helping you feel more alive, more grounded, and more like yourself.
When Your Brain Works Differently: Why a Neurodiversity-Affirming Framework Matters for Depression
Depression doesn’t always come from one specific trigger. For some people, it develops from chronic misattunement, when your environment doesn’t meet your needs, or when you’ve spent a lifetime trying to fit into spaces that don’t seem like they were built for you.
In some cases, depression overlaps with or reflects neurodivergent processing. That doesn’t mean it defines who you are. But it might be shaped by how your nervous system takes in, interprets, and responds to the world around you.
If your brain works differently, you might:

-
Feel things deeply, or feel emotionally “flat” or disconnected
-
Struggle with energy, focus, or motivation even when you care deeply
-
Shut down or withdraw in response to stress, change, or sensory overload
-
Burn out from masking, people-pleasing, or overextending yourself
-
Feel like something’s off, even when nothing is technically “wrong”
This isn’t about not trying hard enough. It’s often a result of long-term overwhelm, exhaustion, or isolation—especially if you’ve been pushing to meet external expectations without support for your internal experience.
In my practice, I don’t assume your symptoms need to be “fixed.” I’ll meet you with care and nuance, helping you explore what’s depression, what’s neurodivergence, and what’s just a valid response to a complicated world.
A neurodiversity-affirming approach to depression therapy means:
-
I honor your brain’s unique wiring and don’t pathologize difference
-
I tailor strategies to your sensory, emotional, and cognitive needs
-
I offer flexible, consent-based support, no matter how depression shows up for you

You are not your symptoms. But your symptoms matter, and you deserve support that takes the whole of you into account.
What You Might Get Out of Therapy for Depression
Based on your specific needs and goals, we might work toward:
-
Feeling less alone and more understood
-
Gaining clarity around your emotions, thoughts, and patterns
-
Rebuilding trust in yourself and your needs
-
Reclaiming interest in things that used to bring you joy
-
Reconnecting with purpose, creativity, or relationships
-
Developing tools to navigate low-energy or low-motivation days
-
Learning how to move through shame, grief, or hopelessness

-
Strengthening self-compassion and resilience
-
Finding moments of meaning, connection, and agency, even in small ways

Therapy won’t always be linear. But over time, it can help you feel more connected to yourself and more capable of facing life on your terms.
